IBIZA - The Town and its
Magic
In 1975 I arrived in
Ibiza
for the first time.
I was studying in the Tourism School in Valencia and I was offered a job
as receptionist in a hotel, that would give me the chance to practice
the languages I was learning.
I still remember that morning perfectly, the
boat was going slowly,
we’ve been travelling all night and the
sun was rising, all of a sudden
the city appeared in front of us, magic and silent, like a postcard.
I was fascinated then, and here I am after all these years.
The roads were terrible then and to arrive at any
beach was very
difficult but it was always worthwhile, there were few tourists then and
it was possible to have the place in exclusive.
In different occasions I tried to change work, island, country but I
kept coming back.
For many years I worked in different hotels and since 1991 I work as a
Tour Guide.
That means I’ve seen
Ibiza
in all seasons from
north to south and so many times, but it still
surprises me because of its beauty.
Many things have changed in the island during the past decades but it
still keeps its charm and
magic for those who look for something more
than sun and
nightlife.
Few tourists visit us in the wintertime.
Those who do, can enjoy the
frequent sunny
mornings, ideal for a stroll along the beach or a
walk around the
countryside.
Probably is January, when all the
almond trees are blooming. the time when
Ibiza
looks absolutely most astounding.
But I prefer summertime.
I love the heat and to swim or snorkel in the crystal clear waters, and
sometimes with a little bit of luck I am invited to
sail around the
island in a small boat, it is then when I enjoy it the most, so many
little coves with nobody…
At night, the old port, full of people from all around the world, is
very cosmopolitan and interesting.
And for a quiet evening I prefer the most ideal place,
Ibiza old town “Dalt Vila”,
with its narrow streets
and charming restaurants
where a nice dinner or drink is so relaxing.
And it is that, a
stroll around the old town what I always recommend everybody.
A visit to that old city,
full of history and
charm that welcomes everyone as
time goes by.
